As we waddled around West Princes Street Gardens, we had to stop at the beautiful Ross Fountain. It stands beautifully, with the majestic Edinburgh Castle rising behind it. Cast in iron and painted in vibrant golds and greens, the fountain adds a splash of color and elegance to the historic landscape. Designed by artist Jean-Baptiste Jules Klagmann, the fountain was cast in a French foundry in the mid-1800s and shipped to Scotland in pieces. Interestingly, the fountain was originally displayed at the Great Exhibition in London in 1862 before being purchased by local gunmaker Daniel Ross, who gifted it to the city. Today, it remains a striking blend of Victorian opulence and urban serenity. Close by is a huge tree, and in its trunk, a penguin stone now hides. It is at about eye level.
