In front of Edinburgh Castle lies a large open space known as the Castle Esplanade, where visitors gather before entering the historic fortress. Surrounded by stone walls and offering panoramic city views, the square is often filled with tourists taking photos or enjoying the atmosphere. One interesting fact about the Esplanade is that it transforms every summer into the grand stage for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a world-famous event featuring military bands, dancers, and performers from around the globe. The Castle Esplanade has also been the site of several historical events, but one of the most significant was its use as a military parade ground and a site for public executions during the 17th and 18th centuries. We waddled the first day in Edinburgh to check it out and could not resist putting one penguin stone here. It is not part of the wall; you will also have beautiful panoramic views.
