The Wasserkirche, located on the banks of the Limmat River in Zürich, Switzerland, is a striking late-Gothic church with deep historical roots. Originally built on a small island, it was once completely surrounded by water, which is how it got its name—”Water Church.” Today, it is connected to the mainland by bridges and paths, blending seamlessly into the city’s old town. One fascinating fact about the Wasserkirche is that it stands on the spot where Zurich’s patron saints, Felix and Regula, were believed to have been executed by the Romans. According to legend, after being beheaded, the saints picked up their heads and walked uphill to their burial place, now marked by the nearby Grossmünster. With the recent visit luciakontsek and loborosh made, you can find a penguin stone hidden nearby. Look for the giant tree trunk where the penguin stone is chillin’.
