Ibusuki is a scenic coastal city in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its unique natural hot sand baths, where you can soak in naturally heated volcanic sand for relaxation and health benefits. Located on the southern tip of Kyushu, Ibusuki offers stunning views of Kinko Bay and the nearby Mount Kaimon, often called the “Fuji of Satsuma” due to its conical shape. The area is also famous for its onsen (hot springs), subtropical climate, and local specialties such as Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes) and sweet potatoes. Ibusuki is also home to one of Japan’s most unique geothermal phenomena—the Nagashi-bina Festival, where elaborately dressed Hina dolls are set afloat on bamboo boats down the Koyama River to pray for good health and protection from misfortune. This tradition, held annually in early March, is a stunning cultural event that blends Shinto beliefs with the region’s deep-rooted customs. But we are bringing this stunning place close because our friends magicandfriends who took a few penguin stones on their adventure; you can now find one there, safely behind a stone. Look for a beautiful beach where a thermal spring emerges, reaching over 80 degrees, so steam is everywhere.
