A Thrilling Adventure Across Leissigen Panoramic Bridge
Often overshadowed by the more famous Sigriswil Panorama Bridge, the Leissigen Panorama Bridge offers an unforgettable journey with epic views. Since we had booked accommodation in Leissigen, it was only natural that we waddled across the bridge ourselves. If you’re looking for a quieter but still thrilling experience, the lesser-known Leissigen Panorama Bridge is the perfect spot to enjoy stunning scenery without the crowds.

We waddled from our accommodation in Leissigen up to the Panorama Bridge, and it wasn’t the easiest way to do it. The climb is pretty steep in places, but taking it slow made it manageable, and it gave us a chance to enjoy the scenery along the way. By the time we reached the bridge, we felt a little accomplished and ready to take in those epic views without feeling rushed.

Our Waddle Across Leissigen Panorama Bridge
We decided to waddle over the bridge after a morning hike in Grindelwald because one adventure is never enough! 😅 We left our gear behind, thinking this would be a fairly easy stroll…or so we hoped.
Starting on the yellow trail, we soon crossed a charming fence and couldn’t resist stopping to feed the goats. They were hilariously curious about our next move, watching every step as if they were planning to join us on the trail.
Our Waddle
- Waddle duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
- Distance: 2.69km (1.67 miles)
- Route: yellow, green
- Map: link
- Things to see: Sigriswil Panorama Bridge, Lake Thun, pastures
The trail wound through the cool shadows of the trees before opening up onto a sunny pasture dotted with cows. Our legs were burning from the steep climb over such a short distance, but the views kept us going. We pressed onward and upward, eventually reaching a quaint little shepherd’s hut perched along the way.
Here, you have to waddle past the cows carefully. At first, it can feel a bit intimidating; they are quite big! But most of them are just curious spectators, watching your every move with mild interest. Once you navigate through their bovine audience, you’ll find a perfect little bench waiting to catch your breath. From here, you can sit back, relax, and soak in the sweeping views around you, definitely a moment worth pausing for. The view here felt like the waddle, and being out of breath was worth it.

We continued toward the bridge, the sun blazing overhead and turning the hike into a surprisingly warm adventure. A little reminder, don’t underestimate sunscreen! It’s not just for the beach; up here in the mountains, the sun hits even harder. Once we reached the bridge, we paused to catch our breath (and maybe admit we need to work on our hiking fitness 😅) and took a moment to read the basic facts before waddling across.
The views were breathtaking: lush forests, rugged mountains, and the shimmering lake stretching far below. The bridge swayed gently as we crossed, adding an extra thrill to the experience, but we made it across and back. Even with our legs burning and lungs a little heavy, it felt amazing to soak in the scenery and enjoy a moment high above the Swiss landscape.

Waddling across the bridge is surprisingly thrilling! The whole structure sways and shakes as you waddle, so if you’re nervous about heights or wobbly bridges, take note, it’s part of the adrenaline rush. When we first arrived, it was just the two of us, and it felt adventurous but manageable. On the way back, three more people joined, and suddenly the bridge felt much shakier, making the experience even more exciting. Definitely keep that in mind if you plan your visit, it adds a whole new level to the thrill!

Best Season to Visit the Leissigen Panorama Bridge
The best time to waddle across the Leissigen Panorama Bridge is during late spring through early autumn. From May to September, the weather is warmer, the trails are dry, and the views of the mountains and lake are at their most vibrant. Summer can be busy with hikers, but the longer daylight hours give you more time to explore the surrounding trails. Just remember sunscreen, even up here in the mountains, the sun can be stronger than you expect!
Best Time of Day for Your Bridge Adventure
If you want to enjoy the bridge with fewer crowds and softer sunlight, aim for early morning or late afternoon. Morning waddles often give you the peaceful experience of almost having the bridge to yourself, while late afternoon light makes the scenery glow beautifully for photos. Midday can be hotter, and the sun is at its strongest, so pack water, sunscreen, and a hat to stay comfortable on your hike.
