Once you arrive at Lake Bled, you will have various activities available. We stayed at the lake for five days and explored quite a lot. No matter whether you came for relaxation, more adventurous activities, or to explore the local legends, read on. We list activities you should not miss while you are here.

The Bled Castle is atop a steep cliff overlooking the lake. Bled Castle is a medieval fortress with a stunning view of the surroundings. When visiting, you can explore the castle’s museum, which showcases the region’s history, or dine in the castle’s restaurant, which offers panoramic vistas. We didn’t actually go inside the castle but waddled up to see it up close and see the stunning views.  Check our waddle here – link

A traditional wooden boat, a Pletna, is a unique way to explore the lake. Skilled boatmen row these boats, taking you on a serene journey across the waters to Bled Island and to visit the island in the middle. Read more here – link

For the adventurous, several trails around the lake offer hiking and biking opportunities. The Ojstrica and Mala Osojnica trails reward hikers with breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding landscape. Check out our waddle and the views we saw – link

You can also engage in several water sports, including paddleboarding, kayaking, diving, and swimming, in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bled. The lake’s calm and clear waters make it ideal for a refreshing dip during the summer months. We highly recommend Velika Zaka Beach. It’s very nice to spend a day here. There are all the facilities here, such as a beach bar and plenty of space to put your blanket on the grass.

During the winter, Lake Bled transforms into a winter wonderland. Visitors can enjoy ice skating on the frozen lake, snowshoeing in the nearby mountains, and cozy evenings by the fireplace in local hotels and chalets.

In the evening, you can have a nice 6km (about 36.7 miles) waddle around the lake to chill. There is a lovely walkway around the lake, and each part brings something unique. Sometimes, you will waddle very close to the water or in the shadows of the tree.

Izletniška Kmetija DORNK is more than just a place to eat and drink—it’s a cultural experience that shouldn’t be missed. Just a short walk from the tourist strip on Lake Bled, this delightful establishment offers a rare glimpse into Slovenian life, complete with homemade food, home-brewed beer, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.  Learn more by checking out our visit here – link.

Cream cakes, known to Bled for decades, are, in fact, the symbol of Bled. You will see them offered in each establishment around the lake and in many ads. Well, there is a good reason for it. It all started at Kavarna Park, a hub for Bled tourism since the mid-20th century, which is known for its famous Bled Cream Cake. In 1953, their in-house pastry chef, Ištvan Lukačević, developed the original recipe, known as kremna rezina in Slovenian and cremeschnitte in German. The hotel and café launched a successful marketing campaign around the dessert, making it an icon of Bled and a celebrated treat across Middle Europe. Since 1953, an estimated 15 million slices have been sold, and on a hot summer day, the café can sell up to 2,000 slices. Each slice measures exactly 7 x 7 x 7 cm and is made with 2/3 vanilla cream and 1/3 whipped cream, sandwiched between layers of phyllo dough. Blaž jokes that at 214 kilocalories per slice, you can burn off the calories by running one lap around the lake, making it a guilt-free indulgence.

Lake Bled offers a wide range of activities and attractions that cater to different interests and preferences. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, cultural experiences, or eating something yummy, Lake Bled has something to offer.

Enjoy lake Bled and waddle on!
