Hofgarten Innsbruck is a historic park in the heart of Innsbruck, Austria. It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the city. We stopped in Innsbruck while on our road trip to Switzerland and fell in love with the gardens. An interesting fact about Hofgarten is that it has been around since the early 15th century, originally designed as a royal garden for the Habsburg dynasty, and it still retains some of its Renaissance and Baroque design elements today. Emperor Maximilian I, Archduke Ferdinand II, and Empress Maria Theresa, among others, contributed to its development, each leaving their mark on the park’s design and layout. The park is a popular spot for bird watching, and now a penguin stone resides there. Find a big tree and look underneath its branches.
