Ljubljana Castle’s origins date back to the 11th century, first mentioned in historical records in 1144. Initially built as a wooden and stone fortification, it evolved into a more robust castle by the 15th century. The castle has played various roles throughout history, from a medieval stronghold to a Renaissance residence and even a military hospital during the Napoleonic Wars. Its strategic position made it a vital defense point against invasions and uprisings, contributing significantly to the region’s turbulent past. And legend says it stands on a slain dragon. But no one knows if he is dead; he might come to life when you visit. Of course, this magnificent place deserves to have a penguin stone here. We first explored the castle before we left a penguin stone behind. Waddle to one of the underground exhibitions. Look for a stone tower and it’s somewhere there.
