When Googling Dubrovnik, you will notice the many offers for a Game of Thrones Tours. And no surprise here, as Dubrovnik is among the top filming locations. If you are a fan of the Game of Thrones show, then Dubrovnik must be on your bucket list. We waddled around and found the places from the scenes.
Jesuit stairs are probably the most famous ones.
Many know it now as Cercei’s stairs, as she did here her famous “walk of shame” all naked.
You will see a lot of Game of Throne Tours on the stairs. An interesting fact, nobody really knows how much they paid the restaurants in the alley below the stairs when filming this, but apparently, it was a lot.
“They were paid crazy amounts of money and had to sign non-disclosure agreements so that the show makers could keep the scene secret.”
The West Harbor or Port is another popular location used in Game of Thrones. A lot of scenes were shot here, as well as the last scene when Arya Stark departed on her voyage.
Although used in many scenes, it surprised us it was never crowded there.
We visited it in May 2022, so not yet peak season for Dubrovnik, however, it was still a surprise to see it not as crowded.
Located on the way to Fort Lovrijenac is the location they used when filming when the Kingsguard was getting Baratheon’s bastards and killing them.
Located next to the port we have Fort Lovrijenac, which you know as the Red Keep from Game of Thrones.
The first scenes were shot in Malta, but then for the rest of all seasons, it was all happening here in Dubrovnik.
We visited also the inside of the fort – link.

This is right before you exit the city through Pile Gate. It leads you basically towards the West Harbor and if you want to go to Fort Lovrijenac.
You can recognize it from the well-known riot scene when the angry crowds try to kill King Joffrey. When filming this scene, they closed the gate for 20 minutes and had angry tourists shouting from outside the gate.
The Walls of Dubrovnik another popular filming location. They appear in many scenes over all seasons.
You can waddle the walls daily, but my recommendation is to do so early morning or later before sunset. We waddled then as well and it was fun –link.
As the wall has several towers and forts, the filming crew made good use of them. One such is the Minčeta Tower.
You might know the tower as the House of Undying, where Khaleesi Daenerys tried to find the entrance to where her dragons are imprisoned.
The Minčeta Tower was used many times in the series from different angles.
Borak Fortress was also used many times over the series from various angles. My favorite scene is in the eighth season at the crucial moment of the fifth episode “The Bells” Daenerys sits on Drogon when she decides to burn the city to the ground, no matter what the bell ringing as a sign of surrender.
St. Dominika Street is a cobbled street located right behind the Ploče Gate.
Most of the market scenes from King’s Landing were filled on this street. It is also the street where the Gold Cloaks kill one of King Robert’s illegitimate sons or where Tyrion and Bronn witness a protest speech in season two. Also, Cersei Lannister walks naked through this street, as a sign of penance.
The Rector’s Palace, the inside of it we can see in season two where Daenerys Targaryen asks the Spice King of Qarth for ships to take her army across the Narrow sea and her request is rejected.
Fans of Game of Thrones know it as the residence of the Spice King in Qarth.
Lokrum Island is another popular location for the filming crew. When you are in Dubrovnik, go visit it. Many scenes from the city of Quart were filmed here.
An important piece of information for Game of Throne lovers, the original Iron Throne from the series is located on the island and you can sit on it and take pictures, just as we did – link.
There are only three locations we didn’t manage to go to, from which one (Hotel Belverde) is not even possible to visit.
When waddling around Dubrovnik, each alley will remind you of the epic show Game of Thrones. A little further from Dubrovnik is also Gradac Park, where various scenes were shot, and also the empty Hotel Belvedere and Trsteno Arboretum. You can book a tour to get to know more or just waddle around. Hope our post helps you discover the Game of Thrones spots.
