When you come to the capital of Slovakia, the Bratislava Castle is hard to miss. It stands tall on a hill overlooking the Danube River, and its strategic location has made it a crucial site throughout history, from Celtic and Roman times to the present day. An exciting aspect of Slovakia’s Bratislava Castle is that during the reign of Queen Maria Theresa in the 18th century, it was transformed into a prestigious royal residence, hosting lavish events that drew European nobility. Today, you can waddle across the beautiful restored Baroque garden where a penguin stone also resides. Look for the statue of the small boy holding a bouquet.
