Gellért Hill stands 235 meters above Budapest and offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Danube River. It is named after Saint Gerard, who pagans martyred in the 11th century. The hill is a historic and symbolic site adorned with several landmarks, including the Citadel, a fortress built in the 19th century, and the Liberty Statue, commemorating the liberation of Hungary in World War II. An interesting fact about Gellért Hill is that it houses a unique cave church, Sziklatemplom, carved into the rock in the 1920s by Pauline monks. This extraordinary church complex includes chapels, altars, and even a monastery, making it a fascinating blend of natural and architectural marvels within Budapest’s urban landscape. We once hid a penguin stone here already, number #10; however, it seems somebody already took it. Now, thanks to luciakontsek a new stone waits here.
