As you waddle along the trails of Devínska Kobyla in Slovakia, you will come across a massive, mysterious tree that captures the attention of every hiker who passes. Its ancient, twisted branches reach out like long arms, shrouded in thick, uneven bark that seems to tell stories of centuries gone by. Moss and lichen cling to its trunk, adding shades of green and gray that change with the shifting sunlight filtering through the dense canopy above. The roots snake out across the ground, breaking through the earth in winding patterns hinting at deep secrets. With such a tree on our way, of course, we left a penguin stone behind on top of it.
