Valparaíso, often referred to as “Valpo,” is a major city and seaport in Chile located on the Pacific coast of South America. Valparaíso’s historic quarter was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 due to its unique architecture and cultural significance. The city played a crucial role during the 19th century as a major stopover for ships traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans via the Strait of Magellan. Valparaíso is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northwest of Santiago, Chile’s capital, making it easily accessible by road and rail. It’s a truly unique location, and thanks to tukesszino, now a penguin stone resides here.
